If you live in a snowy area, picking the right snowblower is important. Some people may think of a snowblower as an “unnecessary” or “expensive.” But in reality, they are almost a necessity depending on where you live and how big of a garage way you have. Although shoveling works for small areas, it can actually be harmful to your health if you try to move a significant amount of snow, and it’s especially strenuous on your back. Let’s take a look at some of the different types of snowblowers.
As the easiest to handle and lightest of all snowblowers, single-stage electric snowblowers are good at clearing areas with 8 inches or less of snow. Since the auger contacts the surface and directs snow through a discharge chute, you will only be able to use this type of blower on pavements and flat surfaces. Otherwise, you risk shattering a window or injuring someone.
Unlike a single-stage snowblower, two-stage snowblowers are gas powered and can handle snowfall up to and beyond eight inches. Thes snowblowers are powerful and are great for clearing large areas with more packed down or heavy snow. Oftentimes, they are slightly elevated and have better tires so that you can navigate it over uneven terrain.
These snowblowers are gas powered and can handle even more snow in less time than a three-stage snowblower. Although they operate very similar to a two-stage blower, they offer an accelerator that works up to 10 times quicker than the augers on the other two models.
Electric snowblowers are typically used for smaller areas such as a deck, patio, or sidewalk that has less than six inches of snow on it. They work best when used on smooth or paved surfaces, they’re more lightweight and economical, are environmentally friendly and can be left to recharge when you’re done with it. Since you’re not using gas, you’ll be saving a lot of money every year when clearing snow.
Which One Should You Buy?
The great thing is that there are a whole variety of snowblowers to suit your needs. Need something powerful that can handle anything you throw at it? Buy or rent a three-stage snowblower. Want to save some money? Electric snowblowers may be your best choice. Don’t forget that there are also add-ons you can buy for your snowblower, so if something doesn’t quite suit your needs, you can always upgrade.
